Medical Physics Group

The main responsibility of the medical physics group in the radiotherapy and oncology department is to ensure the best and most accurate possible treatment for patients. the duties of the department included of dosimetry and quality assurance of accelerations, the designer Radiation therapy and protection have been reviewed below:

  • Duties of the dosimetry team and the accelerator quality assurance team
  • Functional specifications, acceptance tests and commissioning of new equipment
  • Calibration of radiation production devices and radioactive sources
  • Develop and maintain a quality assurance program for all treatments and equipment to ensure that patients receive the prescribed dose and accurate and acceptable dose distribution.
  • Maintaining the equipment needed for calibrating the sources and measuring the radiation dose and cooperating with engineers in maintaining the radiation therapy department equipment.
  • Duties of the treatment design team:
  • Consultation with radiation oncology specialists about physical and radiobiological aspects of radiation therapy and preparation of treatment plan for patients
  • Calculation of dose distribution and device settings for treating patients
  • Approval of the final design by the independent check software of Print Monitor
  • Duties of the radiation protection team:
  • Development and implementation of radiation protection programs
  • Management and supervision of radiation protection programs for radiation workers
  • Supervise the preparation, use and maintenance of brachytherapy fountains
  • Protection calculations required for renovated and under construction treatment rooms, radioactive source storage rooms and brachytherapy rooms.
