Chemotherapy is one of the methods of cancer treatment in which the treatment is done using drugs and often a combination of drugs is used.<\/p>

Chemotherapy is different from other two methods of cancer treatment, i.e. surgery and radiation therapy, because in this method the whole body is affected.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The goals of chemotherapy can be as follows:<\/p>

1- Destroying cancer<\/strong><\/p>

Chemotherapy is used alone or in combination with other treatment methods to destroy cancer cells in the body. Many types of cancer can be treated using a combination of chemotherapy drugs. (combined chemotherapy)<\/p>

2- Reducing the size of the tumor before performing other treatments<\/strong><\/p>

In some cases, chemotherapy is used to shrink the tumor before surgery or radiation therapy.<\/p>

3- Destroying cancer cells after other treatments<\/strong><\/p>

Chemotherapy is often used in addition to surgery and radiation therapy to kill any cancer cells that may still be left. (adjuvant chemotherapy)<\/p>

4- Preparation for bone marrow or stem cell transplantation<\/strong><\/p>

Some types of cancer can be treated using bone marrow transplant or stem cell transplant. In this method, high-dose chemotherapy is used to destroy the patient’s infected bone marrow, before it is replaced with bone marrow or stem cells from a healthy donor.<\/p>

5- Relieve symptoms caused by cancer<\/strong><\/p>

Chemotherapy may be used to relieve pain and other complications caused by cancer. (palliative chemotherapy)<\/p>
